The Altavista Area YMCA is the only public indoor swimming
facility between Lynchburg and Danville, Virginia. The junior
Olympic indoor pool was built as part of the original YMCA
construction project in 1973. The aquatic facility was completely
renovated as part of a $500,000 project in 2001. Swim lessons,
water exercise classes, open and family swim times, lap swimming
and the Altavista Area YMCA Dolphin swim team are among the most
popular activities at the YMCA swimming pool. As a bonus, every
youngster in the YMCA Child Care program learns to swim at the Y!
The aquatic staff is highly trained and their number one priority
is safety.
